The hardest decision I’ll have to make in the next 30 days is whether to keep personally leading hiring at my company or bring in external support through a fractional HR partner or a headhunting firm. After closing our Seed round, we are entering an important hiring wave, with several key positions to fill. Until now, I have been very involved in recruiting, which gives me strong control over the quality of the people we bring into the team and over their cultural fit. At the same time, hiring is becoming increasingly time-consuming and risks taking me away from my core responsibility: building the company’s marketing function and growing as a marketing leader. My main fear is making a costly decision for the company without getting enough value in return, especially if an external partner does not understand our culture, pace and standards as deeply as I do. On the other side the dream is bigger as well: delegating hiring successfully would allow me to focus my energy on making the company stronger in the market, develop deeper expertise in marketing and grow into the kind of leader the company will need at its next stage.
